SAS Textiles: The Origin
Sean Sassounian began his career in textiles by selling yarn to local knitters while studying at the University of Southern California. He quickly realized there was a lack of diversity in the fabrics knit locally and that the more innovative fabrics on the market were being imported from Europe. These fabrics often came with the disadvantages of long lead times and high price tags. Identifying a gap in the market, Sean realized there was a real need for a domestic knitter that could offer novel fabrics at a reasonable cost. He decided to build a knitting mill that could offer customers both quality basic knits, as well as novelty items, putting diversity at the forefront of his brand. By offering a variety of knitting machines that could produce high volumes of unique knits in the heart of Los Angeles, Sean allowed SAS Textiles to stand out for our quality, service, and versatility of products.
Things that matter for us
Today SAS Textiles works with yarn suppliers across the USA and around the globe. SAS works hand in hand with their suppliers to develop unique yarns that are up to date with today’s trends and predictive of tomorrow’s fashion. SAS Textiles provides an extensive open line of fabrics that customers can choose from. In addition to our open line, our design and development team works with our clients to create custom and unique knits. To ensure the fastest deliveries, we stock all the yarns that we use. We work closely with local dye houses to get fabrics dyed and finished to our specific standards and specifications. We also offer NAFTA and CAFTA compliant fabrics for those customers that produce their garments in Mexico or Central America.
We want to minimize the impact our manufacturing process has on the environment. The greatest impact our manufacturing has is in energy use. SAS Textiles has made a commitment to reducing energy use and our carbon footprint. With recently upgraded compressors and air conditioning units to the most efficient on the market, and the switch to LED lighting, SAS Textiles has reduced our energy consumption by nearly 50%. We are currently looking into solar power and plan for 100% of the facility’s energy to be generated from solar panels on the roof in the near future.
